| Tipping |
|
Tipping is expected in Vietnam and greatly appreciated. Smart hotels and restaurants nowadays add a 5% service charge (which should be indicated on the bill) but elsewhere 10 – 15 % is expected. It's a good idea to tip guides, drivers and anyone else who has provided good service. When deciding how much to give, bear in mind that the average income in Vietnam is around $1300 per year (not per month). Take an important note that there is a huge difference between the incomes of urban and rural areas plus the inflation through the years and that makes the city a lot more expensive comparing to a rural area.
