Chau Doc

Chau DocChau Doc is a vibrant town on the edge of the Mekong Delta near the Cambodian border. As an incredibly friendly and bustling little city, Chau Doc has a color scheme to match its ambience, with bright pastel hues of green, blue and purple adorning many of the newer shop fronts.
A highlight of a visit to Chau Doc is a boat trip on one of the small paddle boats that collect near the western end of the park. The boatman will paddle you around the many floating raft houses and fish farms. Enjoying this trip at dawn can be very rewarding. Another attraction, just outside Chau Doc, is Sam Mountain- more of a hillock in fact which offers an excellent view of the flat plain surrounding. In addition, when visit Chau Doc; visitors can see some attractions like Chau Phu temple (built in 1926), Tay An pagoda, Lady Chua Xu temple and the tomb of Thoai Ngoc Hau, the man responsible for building the nearby Chau Doc Canal which defines the border with Cambodia. What makes Chau Doc interesting is its mix of communities, Khmer, Cham and Chinese.
The Cham are mostly Muslim, and leave in isolated communities across the river, complete with mosques. Joining the floating villages in wooden sampans rowed in the unique “forward stroke” Vietnamese style, you will get to see a unique way of life and visit one of the many catfish farms that, collectively, are taking the world market by storm.
